Wine Gift Basket DIY – Gift Idea for Wine Lovers

EventOTB-Wine-Gift-Basket-Wine-Is-My-Spirit-Animal

The mini candle in this Wine Gift Basket says “Wine is My Spirit Animal”. This is a statement that rings true for most people. I, personally, love sparkling wine. My sisters love ALL wine. Either way! The wine gift baskets we all usually see incorporate actual wine (duh) and cheeses, dried fruits, nuts, etc. For my unique wine gift basket, I decided to go with wine scented, flavored or inspired non-food items. And, of course, a little actual wine. I’ll break down the items I found, show you the way I put it together and even give you some freebie gift tags to use for the outside of the bag.

Disclosure: I have affiliate links in this post. That means when you click on a link, if you buy something, I get a commission.  This does not cost you any extra money. They are just bouncing back a commission to me for sending you their way! And, don’t worry, I won’t recommend anything from a website I don’t trust. I have your back! Plus I shop all these places too! Want more info? Check out the EventOTB Privacy Policy.

First, the shell, the backbone, the basket! I looked for all kinds of different baskets. I did find some super cute (expensive) ones. But, I decided on this beauty. Regular looking basket, I know. However, it comes with the straw, the plastic to go around it, and a little tag. Oh yeah, and its $4.99. Hands down the easiest basket put-together-situation that I’ve ever done. I got this puppy at Michael’s Craft Store. Also, to create some volume, I put tissue paper at the bottom of the basket and used the straw as the top layer. This made the basket stand up much better.

Now that we have our vessel, we need items for inside the basket. I went on a literal shopping hunt for wine themed items. But, I wanted to do something different than food. All the ladies reading this will recognize a few items from Bath & Body works. Think hand cream, candles, scented wall plugins and hand sanitizer. Yep. Hand sanitizer in wine scent. I also hit Target for a couple beauty items like ELF lip stick and Sally Hansen nail polish. Finally, good old reliable Amazon. I found Champagne Dream Gummies and Champagne Dreams gum. Super cute. SUPER tasty. Great for gifts. If you love drink themed gifts, you could check out the Moscow Mule Gift DIY. This also features Gummies. To be super efficient, you could get the variety pack and you’ll be set for all your alcohol related gifting.

Also, I bought some fake grapes. For style and in the name of theme! So, now that we have all our items, it’s time to assemble our basket. There is a little that goes into this. We don’t want it to just be a pile of stuff in a basket. We have a lot of little items, which will be our challenge. First we need to work back of basket to front, layering. Second, we need height, which means either stacking or tall items in back. Third, we need to make sure everything is fanned out, visible and the basket looks full. After taking care of these three things, your basket should look like this:

You’ll notice we’ve got tall in the back and the front is fanned so that all may be seen. I also stacked the gummies almost on top of the candle. A breakdown of all the items in our Wine Gift Basket: fake grapes (from Michael’s), Champagne Toast Candle (B&B), Black Cherry Merlot Hand Cream (B&B), Champagne Sparkle Hand Sanitizer (B&B), Sally Hansen Nail Polish in Wine Not (Amazon, Target), e.l.f. Lip Stick in Wine (Target), Black Cherry Merlot Soap (B&B), Wine is My Spirit Animal Candle (B&B), Pink Champagne Wall flower (B&B), Mini Bottle of Wine, Champagne Dreams Gummies (Amazon), Champagne Dreams Gum (Amazon).

Here’s a closeup of the action up front in the basket:

Lastly, take that super easy plastic bag that comes with the basket and pop that baby inside. Tie it up top and add ribbon or raffia or whatever you wish. If you got your own basket, awesome! But make sure you pick up cellophane or a cellophane bag to wrap it with. It just makes everything look more complete.

Finished Wine Gift Basket

I used the tie on tag that came with the basket. But just in case you want to jazz it up with some color, I have a freebie gift tag printable for you. I use these guys by cutting them out and backing them on cute paper. (See below). If you want to join the email newsletter and receive blog updates & freebies, sign up below.
