It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and presents are getting wrapped! It’s easy to get stressed about how these gifts end up looking. I think it’s all about personal expression. That being said, I do loooove to gift wrap. Every year I try to get creative and that’s usually about the paper I choose. But, this year, I thought I’d try out some new ribbon techniques. So, check out the three techniques to upgrade your gift wrap this year.
Technique #1: Use a Three Dimensional Ribbon
This technique is more about searching, than actual technique. I found this ribbon at a craft store. It was so unique, I had to get it. It turned out to be a super fun way to add visual interest to a gift box. Keep an open mind when you are shopping. A weird looking ribbon, yarn or finishing might be super cool on your gifts!!
Also….who says every package has to be tied into a bow? Consider just a knot, especially if your ribbon is super thick and full like the one I chose.
Technique 2: Double up on Your Ribbon – Layering
This technique happened by accident. Lol. So many things in life are happy accidents aren’t they? I had two sheer ribbons and I was going for a mermaid theme here. I was trying to decide between the two colors and holding them together, I realized they were two different sizes. So I popped the small one on top of the big one and here we are.
I will admit, that this technique takes a little patience. You have to pull the ribbon tight and hold firm while you’re wrapping it around the present, because your ribbon will slip and slide on each other. Also, once I got it tied, I did have to go back and adjust the sides so they laid flat on each other, but that wasn’t hard. Note, this is another box I did not tie a bow!
Technique 3: Use Garland as Ribbon
I actually got this idea while walking around a store I frequent, The Dollar Tree. I saw this super cute, small garland and thought, “what can I do with this?” So once I started thinking about it, I decided to try and use it to tie around a gift. I didn’t tie it in the traditional way as to not overwhelm the box, but you could do it the traditional + way if you wanted!
It should be noted that I intentionally picked something with a contrasting color so it popped. If the garland was red or white, it might make the whole situation a bit busy looking. The green really pops out on the red and white background. It’s a good impact and a super easy way to upgrade your gift wrap.
There are the quick and easy ways to upgrade your gift wrapping using ribbon. (Well mostly ribbon). It does make the whole gift wrapping experience better if you have a helper! Although she mostly just sniffed things, she is cute, so I call her a helper.
