What day is more fun and festive than Fourth of July, right? I love fun 4th of July tablescapes. They are so colorful and patriotic. It really says summer! I have a few ideas for Fourth of July table settings for you in this DIY along with the materials you’ll need and where you might be able to get them (aka, where I got mine). I have three setup ideas for you. So, keep reading for the full DIY to get inspiration for your own Fourth of July table setting!
What You’ll Need for the First of the 4th of July Tablescapes
- Blue star charger
- Red Placemat
- Blue and white plate
- Red smaller plate
- Red cloth napkin
- Festive paper napkin
I got my placemat a million years ago. Seriously, I’ve had this placemat for a decade. I’m not sure if they still carry it, but it came from Target! It’s got a vinyl feel and is super easy to clean and durable (clearly). I just happened to have a red one, so I used it.
The blue star charger came from Hobby Lobby. That I actually just bought, so I know it’s still around. I will say, with all these supplies, you don’t have to use the exact ones, but they are here to inspire you! This charger is plastic and was like $2.
The blue and white plate is actually plastic. That one is older as well. I got it at the dollar store. And, finally, the red plate I used is a regular plate. It has a red shimmer/glitter look. And, I got it at TJ Maxx/Home Goods. These plates you can use as inspiration for something you can find close to home.
The main idea is to mix patterns and textures. As you can see, I’m not afraid to mix up a pattern! And, keeping within the red, white and blue color scheme brings it all together as one unit. So, don’t be afraid to play with your configurations.
How to Put this Look Together
This is really less of a how to and more of a tips and tricks. We are going to start with the basics, largest plate/charger on bottom and work your way up smaller and smaller. Try not to have plates that are the same size on top of each other. We want a little peak of each plate. Don’t be afraid to mix plastic and regular.
Also, use multiple colors. You can stick to just blue and white or just red and white. But, for the ultimate patriotic Fourth of July table setting, you’ll want to include red, blue and white. As you can see, it doesn’t matter too much which order you have the colors in.
For the napkin, I use the cloth napkin to fold over the edges of the middle plate. This breaks ups the shapes and the colors. Plus, it gives it a formality. Finally, I love a plate topper. And, when you don’t have one, use a napkin! I found these napkins at a party store and they are perfect. It acts as my plate topper. You can see the video below about how to stack:
What You’ll Need for the Second of the 4th of July Tablescapes
- Blue, circular, textured placemat
- Red charger with detailed edges
- White square plate, small
- Red paper napkins
- Star picks
- Plate topper wood saying
The blue grass cloth style placemat I have came from Hobby Lobby. It was in their kitchen/entertaining area. The red charger is old, but it originally came from Michael’s Craft store. I like the detail it has on the edges. It brings visual interest.
The white square plate is from Home Goods. They are actually a really great place to find unique plates, bowls, and glasses. This square dessert plate cost me $2.99. The paper napkins you can get anywhere, party supply store, Walmart/Target, and craft stores too.
The wood plate saying and the red, white, and blue star picks both came from Hobby Lobby in their seasonal section. You can find other types of these items on Amazon also, or at a party supply store.
How to Put Together Fourth of July Table Setting #2
Tips for this table setting, start at the base with the placemat and layer up, just as before. Work from the larger plates to the smaller plates. I like to twist my square plate so that it looks like a diamond. That’s my preference. I think it provides an interesting look and jazzes it up a little.
For the paper napkins, I actually used three. The reason is that I folded each in half diagonally. Then I fanned them out on the plate so that you could see almost like a pinwheel effect. I like the fun that this creates on the plate and the whimsy.
Finally, I topped it off with these star picks. I think they’re meant for cupcakes, but I used them as plate toppers. To each his own! But those toppers paired with the “fireworks” wood saying, is perfect! They look like little fireworks. I love these wood toppers. I got a bag of them at Hobby Lobby and they came with all different festive sayings.

What You’ll Need for the third of the 4th of July Tablescapes
- white placemat
- red charger
- blue and white dinner plate
- square white dessert plate
- wood sayings plate topper
- stars picks
- red cloth napkin
These are a few of the same materials as the other two place settings, with some new, and used in a different way. This placemat is white. It is a vinyl placemat. It came from Hobby Lobby and was $2.
The red charger came from Michael’s and is just a regular charger in that fun bright red. (P.S. it will be great to reuse come Christmas time!) The blue and white plate is the plastic plate I mentioned before. And the white square plate is the one mentioned in setting #2 (came from Home Goods).
The red cloth napkin, the plate topper saying and the star picks are from Hobby Lobby as well. Similar items can be found in other craft stores, or on Amazon.
How to Put Together Fourth of July Table Setting #3
Tips and tricks for this table setting start out similar. Don’t be afraid to mix and match! This table setting is a little more informal and has more white than color. So, if you’re worried about being too bright with the color, this one would be good for you!
Start with your placemat, then charger, big plate, small plate. The toppers go on top (duh!) You can play around with the topper placement until you find a look you like. I did the same. I tried the word over top of the picks first, but ended up putting it under them. It’s totally your preference.
