This Mother’s Day, show your mom you really care by giving her what she really wants: mimosas and cookies! Lol. I’ve got a super easy Mother’s Day DIY MOM-osa flight you can make and cookies that you can just buy. I’m not a baker, so…..I buy cookies. The best thing is, you only have to go to one place because you can get all of this stuff at Trader Joe’s! And, the MOM-osas are pretty simple with only a few ingredients.
What You’ll Need: Orange Peach Mango Juice, Strawberry Sparkling Soda, Italian Blood Orange Juice, Prosecco (1 bottle), an orange, strawberries, raspberries (optional), Spring Daisies cookies, paper tags, twine, sharpie, 3 mason jars
The Blood Orange Mother’s Day DIY MOM-osa
For the blood orange MOM-osa, you’ll need blood orange soda, some Prosecco, orange slices, and some raspberries. You can get creative and change up whatever you need to. I put raspberries in all of the MOM-osas because they add color and fruity flavor. Start by adding in your raspberries and orange slice, if you choose. Next, fill in your Prosecco. You know how much your mom likes to drink (maybe), otherwise you can ask her how strong she wants her mimosa. I have a tendency to do half and half.
If you want to use the whole bottle, fill each of the three jars about half way with Prosecco. If you’re making two flights (6 drinks), fill each mason jar a quarter of the way up.
Next you need to add your blood orange soda. I added it to just about the top of the jar, but not all the way. I didn’t want to have a spilling type situation.
Put twine on your tag and slip the string up into the lid. Finally, screw the lid on to secure your tag. I used a premade paper tag that came in a paper pad that I got from Michaels Craft Store.
The last step, because we are fancy, is to add an orange slice on the lid. The orange I got was huge. So, I cut it in half first, then added it to the top of the jar.
The Sparkling Strawberry MOM-osa
Similar to the recipe before, start with raspberries, then the Prosecco. The reason for this is that it will fizz up. So, if you do this part first, there’s less of a chance of overflow. I speak from experience. Believe me. Lol. The second reason it’s good to start with Prosecco is that you can see how much alcohol you’re adding. If the juice is in there first, you have a bigger chance of over pouring.
Next, add your juice – in this case Sparkling Strawberry juice. This juice/soda is delicious on its own. Let me tell you. I love it. It comes in a pack of four cans. Again, I added enough to just about get to the top of the mason jar. I should also specify that I used a smaller mason jar, not a big 24 oz one. Mine was about 12 oz. It fit about three quarters of a can of this strawberry juice.
Finally, use your sharpie to write your Mother’s Day DIY MOM-osa flavor on your tag. Add the twine and screw on the top to the mason jar. I also used some paper from the paper pad I got to go around the jar lid. It’s a cute added detail. The paper pads have tags you can cut out as well as strips. They look like this:
As an added touch detail, I cut a slit in a strawberry and put that on the top of the jar as a kind of garnish. Plus strawberries and champagne……yum!!
The Orange Peach Mango MOM-osa
Alright, round three! What do we start with? Raspberries and Prosecco! You guys know the drill by now. Fill up as much as your mom wants (or you….no judging). If you want, go crazy and add some orange slices too!
This orange peach mango juice is also from Trader Joe’s as I mentioned above. It’s with the other juices and there were a few different options you could go with. Make sure you shake it first! Then fill towards the top, but not all the way.
Finally, add your tag and finish off with an orange slice (or half). I used a special kind of orange called Cara Cara. It’s a little bit sweeter than a typical orange. I loved it because it’s not so sour. Plus it has a little bit of a red/pink tint, which is cute, albeit unimportant. Lol. But they’re delicious!
C is for Cookie and Cookie is for Me
You can’t have a DIY Mother’s Day MOM-osa flight without a snack. I opted for these cookies by pure chance. I literally walked by a display at Trader Joe’s and saw these. Besides being super colorful and fun, they look delicious with all the little sugar crystals. They are called Spring Daisies and are a pink and yellow.
Since someone had to try them – you know quality assurance – I ate them. (Not all at once, but, yes, too many over the course of the weekend). The cookie is a classic sugar cookie. It’s a crunchy cookie, not soft. It has a lot of sugar crystals that were tasty and the colors didn’t leave me with a weird tongue for days. So, definitely approve and would buy again. But they make the perfect thing to serve with your MOM-osa flight.
