The nineties are back! So many things from the 90’s have been coming back around lately. I mean, there’s a movie about trolls! I LOVE trolls…..and the 90’s. I know 90’s theme party is not the most unique idea, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. For my take on a 90’s theme, I incorporated bright colors, T.V. show and movie references, of course toys/activities from classic 1990’s shindigs. I had this party in my living room….so no judging. It’s not a fancy venue! But, you know what, the 90’s weren’t all that fancy anyway. So, in a sense, having this party in your living room could be part of the theme!

90’s Theme Decorations:
For décor in the 90’s theme, I used mostly items that I made! A banner, some photo props, and food tags. I added the photo props to the banner for some fun and used them as table décor. I even added some 90’s toys I had in my closet (like trolls!). The thing about party décor is you have to be fun and creative! You can also see in the picture that I used a place setting as part of the decor too. (On the left). If you have a bigger table than I do, you could really fill it out with fun items, confetti, more food, anything!
90’s Theme Tabletop:
- On the tabletop for our nineties themed party, I mostly had food. (Shocker). But for the actual decorating of the table, I used wrapping paper to cover the table instead of using the traditional tablecloth. It’s fun to play with color and design to get a fun, exciting look.
- I used some of the photo props as décor to spice up the tabletop. I put them in a bright pink popcorn bucket I got at the dollar bin at Target.
- To describe the food, or just put silly quotes, I made some stand-up tent tags.
- For server ware (trays, plates, bowls) I tried to stick to the brights in terms of colors, or neutral white or clear.
90’s Theme Party Food:
For the main meal, I did an adult “lunchable” two ways: cheese & crackers and pizza. This is super easy food to have for a party because you’re just buying the pieces and letting your guests put them together! And you can’t have a 90’s Theme Party without finger foods. The 90’s were all about snacks!
I got these cute pink plate at Target for $0.79. It has separate little spots for your food. It gives a childlike, nostalgic feel to creating your lunchable. You know, it is technically a child’s plate. Next, for the pizza lunchable, I created a tray with all the fixings for a pepperoni pizza. I chose to keep it simple, but you could always expand into the world of veggies, other meats, or pineapple (yeah I said it). The important thing to remember is that lunchables are self serve type, handmade items. So, don’t put them together!
On to dessert (duh). For dessert I had two options: Pop Tarts and Magic 8 Ball Rice Krispies. For the Pop Tarts, I simply opened up the ‘tarts and used a knife to cut into triangles. I also may have totally cut off the crusts…..in true little kid fashion. Who needs the edges anyway! The Magic 8 Ball Rice Krispies are actually just what they sound like with a little tweaking. They are a Rice Krispie treat made with Coco Pebbles and a little white fondant or white, round cake decoration with some black icing.
90’s Theme Party Drinks:
For the drinks I did an Adult Capri Sun. These can be made with or without alcohol. The ingredients are pretty basic: Kool-Aide, Vodka and Sprite. You can order drink pouches online at Amazon, or use fun glassware. I found these bottles at Michaels. If you really want to jazz it up, you can use a flavored vodka, but make sure it coordinates with your Kool-Aide flavor.
90’s Theme Party Activities:
I stayed old school for activities and went with the slumber party classics: MASH and Fortune Teller. MASH, in case you aren’t familiar, is the tell all for your life. Because, of course, you will marry The Rock, have 500 kids, be a life coach and live in a shack. It’s super fun and reminds me of being a kid in the simpler times of the 1990’s before we had Instagram and blogging. Our entertainment was paper games! Lol. The MASH game that I made comes with a Modern version, Original, and Blank for you to get creative. It comes as part of The Rad 90’s Party Pack or on its own.
The second activity is a fortune teller. I know this brings you back. It was often a game you could play at school because it can be made out of a sheet of lined paper. But, my version was made on the computer. It’s more colorful and incorporates our favorite 90’s movie quotes in the fortunes. This activity is also available in the Party Pack or on its own.
Photo Props are a super fun way to create memories and have fun at a party. I made some fun nostalgic 90s theme photo props that include our favorite throwbacks like, No Scrubs, Show Me the Money, Ring Pops, Magic 8 Ball and more! Check them out in the EventOTB Etsy Shop here.
90’s Theme Party Favors
I kept the party favors pretty basic. I made some cute treat bags and filled them with 90’s candy like bubble yum and ring pops, also adding in some scrunchies and Lipsmackers! Get creative with other ideas: slap bracelets, stickers (also in the party pack), or Lisa Frank anything. By the way, I just saw a Lisa Frank coloring book at Dollar Tree. WHO KNEW. I’m sure some of you knew. It’s probably just me catching up! Lol. It’s surprising how easy it is to still find 90’s gear at Target and Amazon. Here are some of my favorite picks from Amazon:
Slap Bracelets | Scrunchies | Ring Pops | Bubble Tape | Lip Smackers | Butterfly Hair Clips | Mini Troll Dolls
