What says Halloween more than little marshmallow ghosts and mummies!?! Well, this DIY tutorial walks you through the steps to make your own Halloween marshmallows: ghosts and mummies. There’s even a video, if that is more your jam for learning recipes. Take a look at all the details:
What You’ll Need
- Marshmallows (in my opinion Jet Puffed are best!)
- Lollipop Sticks
- White Chocolate Melts
- Graham Crackers
- Black Icing
- Baking Paper/Sheets
- Plate or Cookie Sheet for drying
- Spoon
How to Make Your Halloween Marshmallows
Step One: Prep
- Wash your hands!
- Pull out however many marshmallows you’d like to dip. Put your marshmallows onto the lollipop sticks by inserting the sticks. Place the sticks in deep enough to be sturdy, but don’t poke it all the way through.
- Crush up your graham crackers into a bowl. I used my hands, then I went back with a spoon and crushed them into finer pieces.
- Pull out a plate or cookie sheet and place parchment paper or baking sheet
Here’s a Video Tutorial that Shows How to Make Them, Or Read Below for Written Instructions
Step Two: I Dip, You Dip, We Dip Halloween Marshmallows
- Once all your ingredients are prepped, melt your chocolate melts. Follow the directions on the package of the melts you get. I started with 30 seconds and then stir a little, 30 seconds more, stir….until it’s fully melted. Just be careful not to overheat and burn.
- Hold your marshmallow on a stick over the bowl of melted chocolate.
- For the mummies: drizzle the chocolate across the marshmallows. You can overlap the drizzles, they can be thick or thin. Don’t worry too much about them being perfect. Mummies are old and messy! Once you have them with some drizzles, roll it around in the graham crackers to get your mummy dust. Finally, drizzle more chocolate strips over your graham dipped marshmallows. Set aside on a cookie sheet or plate with parchment paper to harden
- For the ghosts: scoop up some melted chocolate in your spoon. Then roll your marshmallow around on the spoon to get the chocolate all over it. Again, messy is good! Roll and drip chocolate over your marshmallows so they look like little wrapped ghosts. Place to the side on the baking paper to harden
Step 3: Finish the Details of Your Halloween Marshmallows
- Pull your ghosts and mummies out of the freezer (or counter). Gently peel the marshmallows off of the baking paper. Using the black icing, pipe on the eyes and mouths (if you want) to your little characters.
- I made little dots. Nothing too complicated. Keeping it simple looks very neat, but here’s the thing, have fun! Especially if you’re doing with kids, make silly faces, whatever!
- Let the icing dry and the marshmallows reach room temp (if they were in the freezer) and then serve when warmed up.
