I found all of my food supplies at Walmart for this one! Walmart actually has a good selection of fancy Oreos, on the regular. These firework Oreos have popping candies in the crème. Super festive and perfect for Fourth of July.

The cake frosting you can also get in any flavor you want. I typically get a vanilla or white frosting. You can customize the color if you want, but it can also remain neutral for dipping. Any brand works too!

Sprinkles are going to be in your baking section, or sometimes the holiday/seasonal area. These are super fun sprinkles I got in the baking aisle. They have traditional sprinkles and stars! But, you can always go with a plain red, white or blue too! There are endless possibilities.

Wax paper is a must for the “drying” or hardening period. Otherwise, you’ll be prying these cookies off of a plate, which is more difficult. The skewers or sticks you use for dipping can be anything from a (sturdy) toothpick to a bbq skewer. If you can’t find those things, you can also carefully, use a fork!

How to Make These Easy Fourth of July Dessert Dipped Oreos

First, and foremost, you want to get your cookies out and ready. Place them on a plate on the side, so they are ready to dip. You can even stick the skewers in them already. Same with the sprinkles. Get them opened and ready. If they have plastic, take that plastic off! You’ll also need another plate to use underneath while you’re sprinkling sugar crystals onto your cookies!

Now, we need to make the dip. Start by scooping a healthy amount of cake frosting into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave 30 seconds at a time, while keeping an eye on it. Every microwave is different. If your mixture ends up too solid, pop it back in for another 30 seconds. If it’s too liquidy, let it sit for a few minutes and it will harden back up.

Stick a skewer in your Oreo and dip it into the frosting. While the frosting is still warm, dump your sprinkles overtop the dipped area. Lay on a wax paper lined plate or tray for them to harden. I find the best tip is to pre-spray the wax with baking spray (like PAM). And, then, once they’re all dipped and sprinkled, place the plate in the freezer to harden them quickly. This will help them harden up before the frosting oozes off your cookie.

Once they are nice and hardened (about 10 min), you can bring them back out and either eat them cold, or give them a few minutes to get back to room temperature. Carefully peel them off of the wax paper and place them on your display plate or tray! Here’s a video of the full DIY:

Wrap Up

That’s it! This is an easy Fourth of July dessert that anyone can make. It’s fun to do with family and friends too, so you can make your party prep a group activity. Oreos on their own are a crowd pleaser, much less with some sprinkles and frosting. You can also get a bunch of different sprinkles to mix it up too! It’s up to you! Have fun this summer and eat good food! Check out more Party food ideas here on my Pinterest.
