Hot chocolate season is upon us……even though it’s still hot in CA. But it’s October! Officially! One of my favorite cold weather drinks is hot chocolate. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I always default to dessert in a cup. Plus, you can jazz it up with so many fun things….peppermint sticks, cinnamon, and marshmallows. The list goes on. Maybe it’s my own love for sweet things, but I like to give gifts that I would want to receive. So, I put together a DIY hot chocolate gift that is super simple and easy to put together with a few pointers to keep the theming on point.

DIY Hot Chocolate Gift – Mug

I found this silver and white grateful mug on sale at William Sonoma. There are mugs everywhere. So, the hardest part will be choosing your favorite ones. The other places I like to mug shop are Home Goods, Target and Amazon.

Here are some other mug ideas that are fun: Nope and Friends

DIY Hot Chocolate Gift – Marshmallows

You have complete creative control in your DIY gift, but I would love to suggest to you Smash Mallow! They have super fun flavors like pumpkin pie, cookie dough, cinnamon churro and, the one I used, strawberries & cream. They come in an easy bag that stands straight up. (Great for this gift). I linked to Amazon so you can order from home. Alternatively, they do carry theme at select Target stores too! If you’re giving this gift for the holidays, you might want to go with mint chocolate chip and a candy cane! Get creative!

DIY Hot Chocolate Gift – Hot Chocolate

At Christmas time it’s pretty easy to find pretty hot chocolate packages. But, maybe you’re giving this gift in spring! You can still use the boring grocery store hot chocolate. In this example, I used hot chocolate from a box. I found some paper at Michael’s that matched the color scheme I was going for which was pink and white, based off of my marshmallow choice. Then I wrapped those hot chocolate packet like I would a gift.  Finally, stuff a few of those packets into the mug, standing up so you can actually see your cute paper.

DIY Hot Chocolate Gift Finale

Alright! Your last step is to put it all together. On top of your cellophane, you’ll want to stand your mug and marshmallows next to each other, with the hot chocolate packages inside the mug. Then pull the cellophane up over top of the gift, scrunching it at the top. I always secure it with tape. (It makes it easier to tie the ribbon). Finish it off with some ribbon and a fun gift tag. That’s why we love Amazon, right? Click, click, done. Lol.

  5. I’ve never heard of Smash Mallows. They look awesome! This is such a cute gift. We made something like it once for Sunday School teachers, but we put homemade chocolate-dipped spoons in there instead of the Smash Mallows.
