Footloose is a classic. It really is. Everyone knows the song. Everyone knows Kevin Bacon from it. It’s what he’s most famous for, to this day. The end is a big party celebrating the love of dancing. And is there any better part to emulate! It’s got 80’s vibes, dance music, confetti, balloons, and, as I said earlier, Kevin Bacon. Well, you can’t really have Kevin Bacon at your party. But you can channel him. Also, I was born the year it came out, so there’s that. Not important in general, but that’s how I’m connected. Six degrees of Kevin Bacon right?

I rounded up some items from Amazon to help you recreate the iconic Footloose end scene party. Although, I can’t help you with your dancing. You’re on your own with that. I did, however, find some fun outfit ideas, party supplies and created a free playlist for your party!

Footloose Outfits

The 80’s was an awesome time for awesomely cheesy fashion. You can see on the left, a picture of the original outfits that Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer wore. On the right are some items I picked out from Amazon to help you recreate and update the 1984 look of Footloose.

  1. ELESOL Women’s Chiffon Ruffled Cold Shoulder Dress – Now this item is less that $15, so you’re not getting Vera Wang. FYI. But, it’s a super fun party dress with room for dancing. It also looks just like a shorter, more modern version of the one Lori Singer wore in the original. There are sizes S to XL. It’s made of polyester and spandex. You can adjust the straps and check out the listing for a sizing chart.
  2. ElegantPark Women Pumps High Heeled Shoes – These are technically listed as a wedding shoe, but hear me out. They have an ankle strap (perfect for keeping those boogie shoes on while dancing). They have a small platform, just a quarter inch and the heel is four inches. Now, these cuties also look a lot like the shoe in the picture. Granted we only get a glimpse, but I think they’re spot on.
  3. Men’s Classic Satin Pre-tied Bowtie – This little guy is a must to complete the formal attire look at your Footloose party. It’s pre-tied and adjustable, so no worries if you’ve got no bowtie experience (me). It definitely completes the formal Kevin Bacon look from Footloose, and just think, you can reuse it for weddings, formal events, or whatever! (Anyone thinking of 27 Dresses….”you can just shorten it and wear it again”).
  4. Benibos Men’s Slim FIt Casual Premium Blazer Jacket – This one’s an affordable blazer jacket. It’s cotton and polyester. There’s a casual fit to it (perfect for getting Footloose at the party). Also, it does say that it fits smaller than normal size. Keep that in mind when deciding on a size. Use the size chart in the listing. They range from S – XL.

Footloose Party Time

If you haven’t watched the movie in a while, you should. Lol. But instead of that, you can actually watch just the last scene on Youtube. It’s a lot of generic party items. I tracked down some of the items I think will make your party pop.

  1. WinkyBoom Balloons Assorted 12″ – Silly name aside, these balloons have great reviews, are made of biodegradable latex, and don’t smell. (yes it’s a thing). These are great because you get so many balloons (100) and in so many colors (10), while keeping the environment in mind. They are nature safe because of their biodegradability.
  2. Lampat String Lights G40 Globe – These string lights are 25ft long, good for use indoor and outdoor, and are connectable end to end in case you need more lighting. They also come with a one year quality guarantee!
  3. Vibrant Confetti Mix – The company that makes this confetti is called Inside My Nest. It has had it’s confetti in major motion pictures. Their confetti is biodegradable (good for nature) and made of recycled paper. So, you don’t have to worry about littering the ocean with a bunch of metallic, plastic glitter! You can throw this without worry. Plus, they have a bunch of fun options for colors.
  4. Star Paper Garland Bunting Banner – This is 52 feet of silver star bunting. They are already on string for easy mounting on the wall/ceiling/wherever. The pack includes four separate strings (13 ft each = 52 ft total). They don’t shed glitter or anything, so not a messy decoration.

Ok, so all you’re missing is a barn (can’t really help you with that one) and a playlist (can help you with that). I have a playlist for you, including songs from both the 1984 and 2011 versions of the movie, among other 80’s songs about dancing. I’ll trade you an email below for a download of this free playlist. You’ll also receive email updates periodically with ideas for party themes, unique gifts and other fun freebies. Here’s what it looks like:

Now go cut Footloose!

  1. I LOVE footloose! This is such a fun idea! I might use this for my next birthday 🙂 I even have the footloose soundtracks on vinyl!

    • Hi Sarah – Vinyl! Love it! As it turns out, this is a pretty simple party to throw together! If you do end up throwing the party for your b-day, totally send me pics and I’ll add them to the site! Thanks for your comments! 🙂

I am trying to play a Footloose Girls Night. What are some food ideas to serve?

    • Hi Patty! Yay Girl’s Night! I would say for a Footloose party, maybe do a music themed food, like make round cookies and decorate them like records. Or you could grab a music note cookie cutter. If you’re planning on playing the movie, you could make a fun popcorn recipe. Maybe do like a popcorn/marshmallow combo. (popped popcorn, melted butter and marshmallows – much like a rice krispie). You could use food coloring to get the fun 80s colors into your marshmallow mix. Definitely would be fun to have a cocktail or mocktail too. You could do a party punch. Check out the EventOTB Pinterest board for drink ideas.
